I first started writing the Birth Saga of Super Power (known then as ‘SPW’) in March 2005, although some of my ideas for the Eggyboo Revelation Saga and Republic’s Revenge Saga were there even while I was still at Primary School (around 2000/2001).
From 2008 onwards I began to seriously polish my work – adding extra material wherever there were gaps in the story or where chapters simply weren’t long enough, improving dialogue, pacing, etc ( in some cases even reworking chapters I felt weren’t handled well enough). Though revising my work temporarily slowed the rate of progress, I had been writing at a steady rate.
As I mentioned in my Profile, in 2011 I met with an artist to discuss producing my writing in graphic novel format, but I was unsure at the time how to proceed. Around this time I was also formatting my chapter format writing into scripts using a free script program, which also had a function for comic book format, but I was not sure about length, how to format (number of panels per page, how much could fit on each page), etc, so I just left it.
I am continuing the creative writing at a steady pace, mostly to devote time to gaming and reading, but also to watch documentaries, etc on TV. I will not give up on my writing (regardless of what some people might say about getting a ‘real job’, whatever that means) because I have put a lot of time and effort into it, and it’s something I find fulfilling and that also gives me the chance to grow, mature, and become open to new ideas, so I’m interested in seeing what develops from this blog. I believe there is great potential, and I seek a creative company or individual (or both) who recognises that potential (and shares my enthusiasm!) and is willing to let me ‘share my dreams with the world’ and enrich the world in my own way (and possibly enrich their company’s ‘bottom line’ in the process!).
Originally Super Power began as being somewhat of a tribute to many things I enjoyed growing up (‘vintage’ Final Fantasy games such as FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9 and FFX were some of my main – and earliest – influences), but as I began to familiarise myself with writing and how to implement ideas, it began to become more unique, and continually expanded in scope. It is somewhat more derivative in the prequel series, closer to what you would expect in an RPG, with some Anime influence (as they were my earliest inspirations), but it gradually develops its own style and in some ways breaks some new ground in the follow-up series. My main aims with Super Power (what I want to achieve) are 1: to fill in a ‘void’/dearth of mature animation in the West 2: to disprove the West’s ‘animation is for kids’ mentality and prove that with a CAN-DO attitude, mature animation can succeed (as Anime already demonstrates) .
